The six-cylinder engine was first introduced in the model Naked Concept 6, so it's no surprise that the trend more natural derivative of K1600 GTL would be a version of "R", decreeing the retirement of the K1300R. When the Concept 6 was first shown two years ago, its creator David Robb admitted he would like to see something similar in production, but there were no plans at this time.
However, the concept bikes are made specifically to provoke a reaction from potential customers, giving their creators a way on the future of the model, its viability in the market and whether it makes sense that a machine can turn a series model.
The six-cylinder engine can usually be appropriate to a naked bike that would bear their cylinders more openly than the K1600 touring, even because the motor torque has to have a hit proportional to a naked model.
However, as the new six cylinder engine is less powerful than the older "K" four-cylinder (160 hp from 173 hp K1600GT K1300R) he will need a good calibration to win its predecessor to make it worthwhile the investment naked six-cylinder engine.
Of course, if there was a K1600R then also make sense to create a K1600S. But that does not leave room for the old four-cylinder 1300cc engine.
Rumors aside, the chances that a naked BMW seems to make sense for the year 2013 at least. The German brand is with the knife and cheese on hand for new projects, for example, a 700cc scooter eao development of a new R1200GS for 2012, and plans to return to the cruiser market, left behind seven years ago with the end of R1200C. The time now is look forward.
